Our idea is simple - to reuse old t-shirts and transform them into story-telling artifacts that become more valuable as they get older: Re-Shirts. We want to be a part of the solution for the global water crisis by raising the funds to solve it.

About

Re-Shirts represent a unique world-wide economic experiment. An overwhelming 1.2 million brand new t-shirts are sold every day in the US alone. Each cotton t-shirt consumes up to 10.000 liters of water during production. This is not helping the world-wide water crisis.

Our idea is simple – we accept donations of old t-shirts, transform them into Re-Shirts, and use part of the revenue generated to provide access to clean water for those who need it all over the world.

A Re-Shirt is a previously owned t-shirt with an engaging story that will get to live forever at Re-Shirt.net. Someone donates their shirt and tells us its story, we give it its very own orange Re-Shirt Label, a serial number, and an online home with its picture and story, and begin its new registered life as a Re-Shirt. Every future owner can now document the experiences they have with their Re-Shirt online and continue the story of the Re-Shirt. The older the Re-Shirt gets, the more valuable it becomes, as the stories that get told by the people who own it add to its fascinating history.

Re-Shirts provide a way to cut down on the number of new t-shirts needed by re-using shirts that may otherwise end up in a landfill. Because Re-Shirts have a story and a life of their own, people want to hang on to them. The longer they circulate, the more interesting their history becomes.

From T-shirt to Re-Shirt

The Re-Shirt is different from other used shirts in that it has a story to tell.  These shirts are collected, quality inspected, and Re-Shirted: each shirt is given its very own orange Re-Shirt Label, a serial number, and it begins a new registered life. Every future owner can now document the experiences they have with their Re-Shirt online and continue the story of the Re-Shirt forever.

Re-Shirts are no longer treated (and traded) as inanimate objects, but instead as unique stories with soul and a giving heart that provide clean water to those who need it most.

And just as important: Re-Shirts consume no new resources to exist, which means that if no used t-shirts are donated, then no Re-Shirts are available. Nowhere else can a circular flow economy be experienced so up close and personal. And what do the people who donate all of these t-shirts get out of it? They get to watch how their piece of clothing writes history instead of just sitting around in the closet taking up space, and they get to contribute to alleviating one of the most pressing issues of our times: the water crisis.  Every t-shirt donated to Re-Shirt makes it possible to sustain the cycle of saving shirts- saving water- giving water and to help hundreds of people have access to clean water through our partnership with Water.org. So not only does a Re-Shirt save 10,000 liters of water by not being bought brand new, but every 12 Re-Shirts sold will ensure a person with a lifetime supply of clean water. Please donate your t-shirts and but your Re-Shirts, for water’s sake!
